History of Mount Falcon Estate
The 'castle' was created from the love of one young man for his bride. He agreed that she was so special that she deserved to live in a 'castle'. In 1872 this young man - Utred Knox - commissioned the finest architect of that time, James Franklin Fuller, who also designed Ashford Castle, Kylemore Abbey & Farmleigh House, to construct for them a palatial home at Mount Falcon, an estate of 2,200 acres on the west bank of the River Moy, between Foxford and Ballina, for himself and his new bride - Miss Nina Knox-Gore of Beleek Manor. This stunning baronial structure looks as impressive today as it would have in 1876 when it was completed. In 1932 it was purchased by Major and Constance Aldridge who ran it season after season as one of the finest shooting and fishing lodges in Ireland. Major Aldridge had a great love for country pursuits and exploited fully the natural resources of the estate for his guests. The jewel in the crown of Mount Falcon is its adjoining two miles of fishing rights on the River Moy. Famous for its salmon pools, it is undisputedly one of Europe's most bountiful salmon rivers.
Connie Aldridge was one of the founders of the now famous "Blue Book" of country houses. Numerous guests from all over the world including Vivien Leigh, Peter Sellars, Dr. Patrick Hillary and Jack Lynch, and more recently, Tiger Woods, Mark O'Meara, John Cooke and Nick Faldo, have enjoyed all that Mount Falcon has to offer. The current owners will now take Mount Falcon to a higher level. The luxurious Wall pool and Conors Gap (named after the most famous salmon pools on Mount Falcon Fisheries) reflect the character and charm of this historic house. Self Catering Lodges:
Mount Falcon Country House Hotel offers a choice of luxury self catering lodges nestled in three separate locations on the grounds of the estate, all of which are located within 120 meters of this Luxury Hotel in Mayo. Both the three and four bedroom suites are furnished and finished to a four star deluxe standard. All bedrooms come with double beds and the majority of rooms are ensuite.
All the kitchens in the self catering lodges have modern appliances which include cooker, dish washer, washing machine / dryer, fridge / freezer and microwave. These luxury self catering lodges offer central heating, open fires and flat screen TVs with terrestrial channels. If you wish to spend your time in a peaceful and secluded setting, but still want to enjoy all the facilities on offer in the main hotel, these wonderful retreats are an answer to your dream. These lodges can also be used as supplementary accommodation for larger groups (i.e. conferences / incentives and weddings), hence providing a total bedroom capacity of 122.

12, three bedroom detached sandstone lodges, are located in the middle of a mature forest with an original James Franklin Fuller designed water tower as the main feature.
These lodges have an open plan design with 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and a master bedroom on the first floor all of which are ensuite.
The Lakeside (total floor area is 1, 460 sq. ft.):
17 three bed roomed cottages with stunning views overlooking Mount Falcon's lake. The ground floor consists of an open plan living / dining / kitchen area with utility and a downstairs bedroom. Upstairs comprises of two large bedrooms with a hot press and storage facilities. All bedrooms are ensuite.
The Courtyard (total floor area from 1,350 sq. ft to 1,650 sq. ft):
