
Formby
is located in one of the richest stretches of links land in the
world, running along the Lancashire coast. Notable neighbours
include Royal Lytham & St. Annes, West Lancashire, Royal Birkdale,
Royal Liverpool and many many more.
The
course is set up with the unique combination of links, heathland
and woodland. Consisting of firm fast seaside greens with undulating
fairways protected by sweeping sand dunes, pine trees and indigenous
heather. It is one of the most popular courses in Britain.
Within
the links is the Formby Ladies Golf Club. Founded in 1896, it
is completely independent with its own clubhouse, course and
greenkeeping staff.
It
has hosted a number of past English Amateur Events with such
notable winners as Jose Maria Olazable and Colin Montgomerie.
